Building for America’s Bravest Project and the Gary Sinise Foundation

Actor Gary Sinise, best known for his portrayal of Lt. Dan Taylor in the film Forest Gump, has just launched a project aimed at building smart homes for America’s seriously wounded veterans. Sinise played Lt. Dan Taylor, a Vietnam veteran, in the unforgettable film Forrest Gump in 1994 and as a result he has developed a close relationship to many of America’s veterans. This relationship has grown over the years because of Sinise’s dedication to veteran causes. One such example is the project to build smart homes for America’s wounded veterans that his foundation is currently working on.

Veterans all across the country praised Sinise for his portrayal of Lt. Dan in the movie Forrest Gump and subsequently invited Sinise to attend an annual conference held by veterans just after the movie opened. Sinise was equally moved by the people he met and thus began a lifelong dedication to veteran causes. In 2003, Sinise joined a USO tour where he visited wounded veterans in military hospitals throughout the world. Sinise’s band, “Lt. Dan Band”, named after his role in the movie, raises money for veteran causes. Recently, the Gary Sinise Foundation, in partnership with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, has embarked on a project to build smart homes for America’s seriously wounded veterans. The Building for America’s Bravest project builds homes that can basically be run off of a smart home for veterans who are so seriously injured that even everyday household tasks are impossible.
